Cartridge needles

What are tattoo cartridges?

Tattoo cartridges are single-use modules that combine both the needle and grip in one convenient, sterile package. These modern tools have revolutionized the tattoo industry by offering improved safety, convenience, and consistency. Each cartridge comes pre-sterilized and individually packaged, eliminating the need for time-consuming preparation and cleaning procedures.

Our Crystal Premium cartridges exemplify the quality standards professionals expect, featuring precision-welded needles and smooth operation. For artists looking for specialized options, our collection includes configurations for all tattooing techniques from fine lines to bold color packing.

The difference between cartridges and traditional needles

The primary difference between cartridge systems and traditional tattoo needles lies in their construction and usage. Traditional needles require manual assembly, where the artist must configure and solder needles to needle bars, then pair them with separate grips or tubes. This process is time-consuming and requires sterilization before and after use.

Cartridge systems offer significant advantages. They come pre-sterilized, require no assembly, and can be quickly changed during tattoo sessions. This allows artists to switch between different needle configurations without interrupting their workflow. Many professional artists now prefer cartridge systems for their convenience, consistency, and improved hygiene standards.

For artists who still prefer traditional methods, we also carry high-quality traditional needles that maintain the classic approach to tattooing.

Most commonly used cartridge needle configurations

Professional artists typically rely on several key configurations for different tattooing techniques. Round Liners (RL) such as 3RL, 5RL, and 7RL are ideal for creating precise lines and details. These are essential for outlines, fine work, and intricate designs. Magnums (M) and Round Shaders (RS) are perfect for shading and color packing, with 9M, 13M, and 15M being popular choices for larger areas.

For specialized work, configurations like Soft Edge Magnums (SEM) provide softer transitions in realistic tattoos. The thickness of needles also varies, with standard thickness suitable for most applications, while thin variants excel at delicate work and thick needles provide better ink flow for bold, solid lines.

Our Legends cartridges and Cheyenne cartridges offer premium quality in all these configurations, ensuring you find the exact tools for your tattooing style.

Choosing the right cartridges for your machine

Compatibility is crucial when selecting cartridge needles. Most modern cartridges feature universal fittings that work with standard cartridge grips, but some machines require specific cartridge types. The Cheyenne CRAFT and CAPILLARY series, for example, are designed to work optimally with their corresponding machines.

Consider your tattoo machine type when selecting cartridges. If you use a pen-style machine, you may prefer slim cartridges designed for better visibility and handling. For artists using traditional machines with adapters, standard-sized cartridges often provide the best performance.

At Tattooland, we stock over 4,000 products including a wide range of cartridges compatible with all major machine types.
